Monica Wehby

Monica Wehby is a well-known physician and politician from Oregon. She is a pediatric neurosurgeon and is board-certified by the American Board of Pediatric Neurological Surgeons and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. In the 2014 election, she was the Republican candidate for the US Senate seat from the state of Oregon. 

 

About Her Personal Life 


Monica Wehby was born on May 7th,1962 in Nashville, Tennessee. Both her parents were working; her mother was a registered nurse, and her father was a Certified Public Accountant. She completed her secondary education in 1979 from Father Ryan High School and then earned her BA in Psychology and BS in Microbiology from the University of Notre Dame. 

 

Monica Wehby then was accepted to Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Apart from being academically successful, she also served as Student Body President and Head of the Medical Student Group of the Texas Medical Association. After this, in 1995, Wehby completed her neurosurgery residency at UCLA Medical School. Then, she got a pediatric neurosurgery fellowship at the University of Utah School of Medicine and finished it in 1997. One year later, in 1998, Wehby shifted to Portland, Oregon, and joined Randall Children's Hospital at Legacy Emanuel as the Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery.  

 

Wehby was married to James Jim Grant, a physician in Portland, and separated in 2007. She lives with her four children in the Garden Home neighborhood of Portland. 

 

About Her Career 


As mentioned, Monica Wehby is working at Randall Children's Hospital in Portland as the head of pediatric neurosurgery. She was awarded the Congressional Medal of Distinction for improving the health of children. Dr. Wehby has also been a former President of the Oregon Medical Association.  

 

In 2009, she showed up in nationwide TV advertisements discussing possible issues with Obamacare, also called Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. 
 

In 2011, Wehby became a member of the Board of Directors of the American Medical Association. On May 20th, 2014, she won the Republican nomination in the primary election and defeated Jo Rae Perkins, Jason Conger, Timothy Crawley, and Mark Allen Callahan. 

 

In 2015, Dr. Wehby announced that she was returning to Oregon politics, but this time, not as a candidate. In a press conference, Wehby said that she has no plans to run for election at all. She became a member of a political action committee this time; the panel focused on supporting potential nominees in upcoming elections.  

 

Currently, Dr. Monica Wehby is again working full-time as a pediatric neurosurgeon at the Randall Children's Hospital.
