Monica Wehby: An American Physician and Politician
Monica Wehby is one of the most popular women who has worked as a pro in fields like politics and medicine. She was born on May 7, 1962, in Nashville, Tennessee. Her father was a Certified Public Accountant, and her mother was a nurse. Her early life was full of struggle, but with her strong determination and hard work, she became a successful physician and politician. In 2014, Monica came into limelight after winning the election against the Democratic incumbent, Jeff Merkley.
Initial State of Her Life
Monica was raised in a mediocre family as a Catholic. She graduated from Father Ryan High School in 1979. She completed her B.A. in Psychology and a B.S. in Microbiology from the University of Notre Dame. She was also a senior class president of the medical student section of the Texas Medical Association and a student body president.
She completed her neurosurgery residency at UCLA Medical School in 1995. After two years, she completed her pediatric neurosurgery fellowship at the University of Utah School of Medicine. After a year, she went to Portland and became a director of pediatric neurosurgery at Randall Children's Hospital at Legacy Emanuel.
Entry to Politics
Entering into politics was never in Monica’s mind. But as life is unpredictable, so her choice of entering into politics. In 2007, she became the president of the Oregon Medical Association. After two years, in 2009, she appeared in the Nationwide Television Advertisement for the issues related to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. In 2011, Monica Wehby was also elected as one of the trustees of the American Medical Association's board trustees.
Her Married Life
Monica Wehby was married to James Jin, who was a physician in Portland. Unfortunately, the marriage did not last for long, and in 2007, she was divorced. Currently, she lived with her children in Garden House, located in the suburb of Portland.
As an approach to recognize her dedication to improving children's wellbeing, Monica got the Congressional Medal of Distinction. Additionally, Monica got America's Most Compassionate Doctor Award as a sign of appreciation from her patients for her great service.
