Monica Wehby: Making a Difference in Healthcare
Monica Wehby, a distinguished Neurosurgery Specialist in Oregon turned to politics to change how healthcare in the country works. The doctor is an extremely revered person in the state and celebrated for her work across the country. In 1998, Monica finished her studies to become a part of Randall Children’s Hospital’s esteemed doctors in the pediatric neurosurgery at Legacy Emanuel in Oregon.

For a greater part of her life, Dr. Monica Wehby has dedicated herself as a pediatric neurosurgeon to save innocent lives. She has operated on and treated children who have suffered from complicated or acute brain conditions. And during her work years, giving a second life to her patients, she has been honored with several awards and laurels. Her selfless dedication and outright work to save children’s lives have not gone unnoticed.
Dr. Monica is a member of The American Board of Pediatric Neurological Surgery, The American College of Surgeons, and a Fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. As a member of all these organizations, Dr. Monica has an essential role in carving the healthcare of the state. She is also a member of the certification of The American Board of Neurological Surgery.
Dr. Monica was bestowed with the Congressional Medal of Distinction for her remarkable work for the betterment of child health. On top of it, Monica also won America’s Most Compassionate Doctor Award to acknowledge her commitment to the field of healthcare. She was the first female student to join and graduate from UCLA’s neurosurgery program in 1998. After this, Monica became a member of the American Medical Association’s board of trustees. But that stint did not last long as she resigned to work as a full-time pediatric neurosurgeon at Randall Children’s Hospital in Oregon.

Dr. Monica Wehby has been in the healthcare sector for a greater share of her life. After spending all these years, she has realized that the current healthcare is in a state of despair. And to do so, Monica entered the arena of politics as a Republican candidate in the United States Senate elections in 2014 for Oregon.
The campaigns gave Monica a chance to voice her opinions on the current state of healthcare. During one of the rallies, Monica said, “I want our kids to have the same opportunities that we had. I'm really concerned when I look at the way things are going, we may be the first generation that can't say that their kids are going to be better off.”
Monica has impressively used the stage as a politician to share the deteriorating state of healthcare that she experienced during her practice. She believes there is a need for a substantial transformation that puts the doctor-patient relationship before everything during crucial policymaking.
