Monica Wehby: A Physician & politician making Oregon a better state

 Monica Wehby, a distinguished Neurosurgery Specialist and politician from the state of Oregon, is a famous personality across the United States. She completed her study in 1998 and became a part of the pediatric neurosurgery team at Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel in Oregon. 

Let’s take a brief look at Monica Wehby’s extraordinary life. 

Monica Wehby:  Her remarkable life as a physician 

Dr. Monica Wehby has spent many years of her life as a pediatric neurosurgeon, operating on children suffering from severe or high-risk brain conditions. Over the years, she has received various laurels for her selfless work towards bettering children’s overall health. 

Monica Wehby is a Fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, The American Board of Pediatric Neurological Surgery, and The American College of Surgeons. She is also a member of the certification of The American Board of Neurological Surgery. 

For her exceptional work in improving children’s health, the nation awarded Dr. Wehby the Congressional Medal of Distinction. As a mark of gratitude for her faithful and generous, Monica also won America’s Most Compassionate Doctor Award. In 1998, Dr. Monica Wehby was the first female to enroll and complete her graduation from UCLA’s neurosurgery program. She was also a part of the board of trustees of the American Medical Association. She later resigned from this post and started working as a full-time pediatric neurosurgeon at Randall Children’s Hospital, Oregon. 

Monica completed her BA in Psychology and BS in Microbiology from the University of Notre Dame. In 1997, she got her fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery form the University of Utah School of Medicine. That’s when she decided to move to Oregon and work as the director of pediatric neurosurgery at Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel. 

Monica Wehby: A successful politician 

After spending years in medical practice, Dr. Monica Wehby realized how much needs to be done to reform the healthcare system. In 2014, Monica entered politics and was the Republican candidate for the United States Senate for Oregon. 

Monica said, “I want our kids to have the same opportunities that we had. I’m really concerned when I look at the way things are going; we may be the first generation that can’t say that their kids are going to be better off.” 

She used her stage of a politician to spread the words for essential changes needed in the healthcare system. Monica emphasized how transformation must come to give the doctor-patient relationship a higher priority above anything during critical decision making. 

A doctor who deserved every laurel 

Dr. Monica Wehby has always been a passionate physician, working tirelessly for the betterment of her patients. Being awarded America’s Most Honored Doctors by the people only proves how valued her service is to the nation. And that is what keeps her persevering every day.
