Monica Wehby: A Woman with a Strong Will and Determination

Monica Wehby is a woman of strong will and determination. She was born on May 7, 1962, and a well-known physician and politician in the state of Oregon, the U.S. For the United States Senate, she was the Republican nominee. She won the election in 2014 against Jeff Merkley, the democratic incumbent.  

Education and Early Life 

Born in Nashville, Tennessee, Monica's father was a Certified Public Accountant, and her mother was a nurse. She was raised as a Catholic who graduated from Father Ryan High School in the year 1979. She then learned Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Notre Dame and a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology. She graduated from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, where she also served as a senior class president, a medical student section of the Texas Medical Association, and student body president. In 1995, she also completed her neurosurgery residency at UCLA Medical School. And in 1997, she completed a fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery at the University of Utah School of Medicine. In 1998, she moved to Portland, and there at Randall Children's Hospital at Legacy Emanuel, she became a director of pediatric neurosurgery.  

Her Political Career 

Monica Wehby has seen many ups and downs in her political career. In 2007, she was chosen as the president of the Oregon Medical Association. On the other hand, in 2009, she was seen in the nationwide television advertisement warning related to issues with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. In the year 2011, she was elected as one of the American Medical Association's board trustees.  

Her Personal Life 

Married to a physician of Portland James Jim she was divorced in 2007. She resides with her couple of children in a suburb of Portland i.e., in Garden Home.  

Her National Attention And the “Trust” Advertisement 

Wehby released an advertisement that got attention in late April. Known as “Trust,” a minute-long ad was narrated by one of her patients who advised her to terminate her pregnancy after an ultrasound found a congenital disorder with the spinal cord of her unborn daughter. However, Monica successfully performed surgery by which her daughter survived. This ad was praised widely and attracted national attention to this campaign, also to the Republican primary of Oregon. In 2014, it was hoped by Republicans that they would take control of the Senate election. It makes Monica a moderate Republican and a successful surgeon.
